Well, this season has been tough for big-name running backs. Here’s a personal example. In one league, my first three picks were Adrian Peterson, Thomas Rawls and Eddie Lacy (people in this league hate running backs, apparently).
As you know, two of the three RBs are now on injured reserve, and the other has hardly played this season due to an injury. As you might guess, my team has since struggled at running back.
Moral of the story: It is hard to predict which running backs will play well; however, we try to do it every week anyways.
So, who will be the top five running backs in Week 9?
The Dallas Cowboys are the best rushing team in the NFL, and with an elite offensive line, Ezekiel Elliott is a weekly big-play threat. Against a Cleveland Browns defense that allowed 21 Fantasy points to Matt Forte, Elliott should be in for a high-scoring outing.
Ben Roethlisberger is still out with an injury, and Landry Jones does not have full command of the Steelers offense. Lucky for Landry, he has one of the league’s top running backs to back him up. As Pittsburgh faces off against their division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, Bell will carry them to a victory.
The Denver Broncos groung game has not been strong. With CJ Anderson out for the season, Devontae Booker showed flashes but finished with just 54 rushing yards. In Week 9, the Broncos play the Oakland Raiders, and if they want to win, they need to control the clock and keep the high-scoring Raiders offense off the field. To do this, Booker must have a big game, and he will. He will have his first professional 100-yard rushing game and a third straight game with a touchdown.
After a rough rookie season, Melvin Gordon is showing why the Chargers had such high hopes for him. In Week 8 against a tough Denver defense, Gordon had 111 yards rushing on 23 attempts. In Week 9 against the Tennessee Titans, he will do that, and more.
When Matt Forte plays well, the New York Jets win. In Week 9, the Jets play the Miami Dolphins in a game the must win. Forte is coming off back-to-back 20+ point Fantasy outings, and all signs point to a third straight against their division rivals.
